Professor Warren Payne

  • Professor Payne has 20 years of experience in the Tertiary sector and has researched and taught in a variety of exercise science and health promotion areas as well as having held a number of senior university administrative positions such as Head of School and Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor (Operations). He is currently Deputy Head (Commercial Operations and Research), School of Human Movement and Sport Sciences. 
    He has published over 150 refereed publications, conference proceedings and major industry reports. His work with industry has resulted in significant changes to a range of industry groups and has received a number of awards. Since 2003, he has been awarded grants for consultancy-based research totalling over AUD $5 million for work in physical performance test development and health program evaluation. His current research focus is on the development of physical employment standards and promotion of physical activity in disadvantaged communities.
    Professor Payne has had extensive experience in working with a range of organisations within the sports industry. He has provided 'hands-on' sports science services along with strategic advice to a range of local, state and national sporting organisations. These sporting organisations cover sports such as rowing, swimming, cycling and orienteering. His work in the sports industry has been complemented by extensive experience in a variety of other industries including defence, health, emergency services and agriculture.
    Professor Payne has also been associated with a range of professional organisations. He is Deputy Chair of the WestVic Academy of Sport, Vice-President (Science) Sports Medicine Australia Fellows and is a member of advisory panels for Victorian Health Promotion Foundation and Sport and Recreation Victoria. He was a founding executive member of the Australian Association for Exercise and Sports Science and has established a range of commercial and academic links in countries such as China, Sri Lanka, USA and UK.
