Scholarships for International StudentsThe University of Ballarat has two types of scholarship that may be awarded to International students, from any country other than Australia or New Zealand, applying for a place in a higher degree by research. These scholarships are the Endeavour International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) and the Special Overseas Student Scholarship (SOSS). The SOSS covers course fees only. The IPRS covers course fees health insurance and is usually coupled with the award of a stipend. Further information about these awards is available from Research Services. See below for further details. The closing date for international scholarship applications is 31 October each year. In addition, dependents of Post-Graduate Research Students now qualify for Tuition Fee Exemption in government primary and secondary schools. All such enquries, including those regarding student visas, travel, healthcare and accommodation should be directed to International Student Programs. See below for further details. Endeavour International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS)This scholarship may be awarded to the highest ranked eligible overseas applicant who would be eligible for the award of a University of Ballarat Postgraduate Research Scholarship under the procedure outlined in the Scholarship Application Ranking Procedures. Eligibility for IPRS - course feesApplicants for the Endeavour International Postgraduate Award (IPRS) are open to international graduates who have completed a four year undergraduate degree at first class honours (or have other qualifications such as a Masters degree or experience in research that lead the Research Higher Degrees Sub-Committee to evaluate the applicant as being equivalent to first class honours standard). Please refer to the DIISR website for all details. This scholarship covers all fees relating to the course and pays basic Health Insurance for the successful applicant. The successful student awarded the University of Ballarat IPRS will receive a scholarship stipend equivalent to the value of an APA. The 2011 value of the APA is $22,860 p.a. and is available for the term of the IPRS. Special Overseas Student Scholarship (SOSS)This scholarship may be awarded to an overseas applicant ranked sufficiently highly to be awarded a University of Ballarat Postgraduate Research Scholarship. It is awarded in accordance with the Scholarship Application Ranking Procedure, provided the School has indicated prior to the evaluation meeting that the applicant is eligible for such an award. This is an internal award of the University of Ballarat. Eligibility for SOSS - course feesApplicants for the SOSS are open to international graduates who have completed a four year undergraduate degree at first class honours (or have other qualifications such as a Masters degree or experience in research that lead the Research Higher Degrees Committee to evaluate the applicant as being equivalent to first class honours standard). The successful student awarded the SOSS will also receive a stipend scholarship equivalent to an APA. The 2011 value of the APA is $22,860 p.a. and is available for the term of the SOSS. A student must be ranked second on the University of Ballarat Research Scholarships Merit List. This award is funded by the School and covers course fees only. The School must provide confirmation in writing from the Head of School that the School will cover all course fees from non-DEST accounts. This letter must be in the students file when re-submitted to Research Services for consideration by the Research Higher Degrees Committee at the Scholarship Meeting. Meeting dates can be found at http://www.ballarat.edu.au/ard/ubresearch/rgso/committees/rhdsc.shtml Tuition Fee Exemption for Dependents of PostGraduate Research StudentsThe Victorian Government has announced that dependents of international post-graduate research students will receive full exemption from tuition fees in government primary and secondary schools from 1 January 2006. The exemption applies to dependents of postgraduate research students enrolled at Victorian tertiary institutions in doctoral or masters by research degree courses, who hold a Subclass 574 Visa issued on or after 1 July 2004.
