Who can enrol?
UB Tec enrols students who have completed Year 10, are less than 20 years of age and who have not completed Year 12.
Students who enrol in UB Tec will be interested in going on to further training at TAFE, starting a pre-apprenticeship or apprenticeship, or getting a job.
Why UB Tec?
The UB Tec provides a unique learning centre located in the centre of Ballarat, at the SMB Campus of the University of Ballarat, with access to existing specialised TAFE training facilities.
A new purpose built facility will be constructed in the near future to accommodate approximately 300 students.
The UB Tec program flexibility enables students to undertake hands-on study in different industries and units from the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL).
Preparing students for job-seeking and employment are high priorities for UB Tec.
During the completion of courses at UB Tec students develop pathways to further education, training and employment. On successful completion of Intermediate or Senior VCAL, students will generally receive a Certificate and a Statement of Results. Like the VCE, they are issued by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA). In addition, students will generally receive a VET Certificate and/or a Statement of Results issued by the University of Ballarat. Completion of courses at UB Tec will help students gain employment including apprenticeships and traineeships. Students who graduate from UB Tec will have preferred entry into higher level TAFE courses, including Certificate IV and Diploma courses that may articulate into Degree courses.
Individual learning plans are developed and closely monitored. All students have staff mentors to support them. A personal link is established between the staff mentor and student, the parent and mentor and the mentor and other teachers.
All teaching and support staff have been selected for their high level of knowledge and expertise in applied learning and their experience in industry.
Students have access to a wide range of support services, including counselling, disability support and health services.
Industry Partnerships : An Industry & Community Liaison Officer is responsible for establishing vital links between UB Tec and specific industries/businesses.
Australian democracy is valued by ALL at UB Tec. UB Tec's values are consistent with the principles underlying the Equal Opportunity Act 1995, including a commitment that we support:
elected government;
the rule of law;
equal rights for all before the law;
freedom of religion;
freedom of speech and association;
the values of openness and tolerance.
